I am getting lots of questions from my viewers asking where do i buy this and that for my baby. Now coming back to the recipe...This is a super duper health mix for your baby. You could buy decent health powder mix from shops. But i love to make it myself for my baby, because you get to know what goes into them and you can customize it as per your baby needs. 




I added rice and pulses in my health mix. So i feed this porridge for my baby for lunch instead of giving rice khichdi. I made two versions of this powder, one savoury and one sweet. 

For making porridge out of it:

you can mix couple of tblspn of this powder with some water and cook it for 10 mins on a very low flame till the rice and dals are cooked. Then you can add some sweetner to sweet one and salt in the savoury one..It is that simple.

How to sterilize baby feeding bowls:
 

Start by sterilizing the bowls and spoons which you are going to feed your baby. Take the bowl and spoon in a large saucepan, cover it with water and bring them to a boil. Boil it rapidly for 5 mins. Now you can turn the heat off and leave them stay in the hot water till use.

Preparation Time : 10 mins
Cooking Time : 1 hour

Ingredients:

Rice - 1.5 cup ( I used cooking rice, ponni brand)
Barley - 1 cup
Roasted Gram Dal / Pori Kadalai / Pottu Kadalai - 1 cup
Whole Black Urad Dal - 1 cup
Green Gram Dal - 1 cup
Yellow Moong Dal / Pasi Paruppu - 1/2 cup
Masoor Dal - 1/2 cup
Broken Wheat / Cracked Wheat / Dalia - 1 cup
Cashew - 1/2 cup
Badam / Almond - 1/2 cup
Cumin Seeds / Jeerakam - 1 tsp
Ajwain Seeds / Omam - 1/2 tsp
Cardamom / Yelakai - 10 pods (If using this, leave ajwain and cumin)
 

Method:

Take urad dal and green gram in a bowl and wash them well, drain and add to a dry pan and roast till it turns golden brown and dry. Remove to a plate.

Take masoor dal and yellow moongdal in a bowl and wash them well, drain and add to a dry pan and roast till it turns golden brown and dry. Remove to the same plate.

Take rice and barley in a bowl and wash them well, drain and add to a dry pan and roast till it turns golden brown and dry. Remove to the same plate.

Roast roasted gram dal till golden and remove to the same plate.

Roast dalia till golden and remove to the same plate.

Roast cashews and almonds till golden and remove to the same plate.

Roast cumin and ajwain till golden and remove to the same plate. If you are making a sweet one, leave ajwain and cumin and add cardamom to it.

I made two version, so i took half of the mix and added cardamom to one and roasted cumin and ajwain in another. Now grind them in a mixer and sieve it.

Store it a air tight container.

Take all your ingredients


Take green gram and urad dal in a bowl


wash it well


drain and set aside


heat a heavy bottom pan


add the dal in it


roast till it is nicely toasted and golden
remove it in a plate and let it cool
Now take masoor dal and moong dal in a bowl


wash it
drain it


add to the same pan and roast


roast till it is dry and golden


remove to a plate


now roast some roasted gram dal


let it turn a couple of shade darker


remove
Now time to roast rice and barley


Wash it very well


drain it


add to a big dry pan and roast them


keep on roasting till the rice is well toasted and turns golden


just like this


remove to a plate
Now roast some broken wheat


roast till nice aroma comes from it..


remove to the plate and set aside


roast some nuts, you can add some badam too


roast them


remove..


Now comes the twist, if you want to make savoury porridge,
roast cumin and ajwain


When it turns little golden


remove it


If you want to make sweet porridge,
add cardamom instead of cumin and ajwain


Take the savoury version in blender


powder them
Add them to a sifter


all sifted


remove to a plate and let them cool
Take the sweet mix in a blender


powder them
add them to sifter


sift them


remove to a plate and cool down


all done


store in a air tight container..
